world cup Wigan coach Martinez on Liverpool radar

Liverpool were given permission by Wigan Athletic on Thursday to talk to coach Roberto Martinez about becoming the next manager at Anfield, a day after Kenny Dalglish was sacked.

"He's going there with an open mind," Wigan chairman Dave Whelan told Sky Sports News. "We would love to keep Roberto, he's a great manager. But there are two or three clubs looking for a new manager and Roberto is on the list for all of them. If Liverpool are serious, then we may lose him."

The 38-year-old Martinez left Swansea City to take over at Wigan in 2009 and has been widely praised for keeping the modest Lancashire club in the Premier League. Wigan stayed in the top flight this season after wins over Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United in their final eight games helped them to a respectable 15th in the league - seven points clear of relegation.

"When Liverpool phoned me I was actually with Roberto having a meeting on what we are doing next season," added Whelan. "I did promise Roberto and I have always said when a big club comes he would have permission to talk to them and they don't come any bigger than Liverpool.

"I gave him permission and he will be talking to them soon - I don't know when, but quite soon. When Liverpool sacked Kenny I have to say I thought Liverpool would be knocking on the England 2013/2014 BECKHAM Home Soccer Jersey door and sure enough they are."

Dalglish, who had returned for a second stint as manager at Anfield in January last year, paid the price for a dismal season that saw Liverpool finish 37 points behind champions Manchester City. The Merseyside club's American owners the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) had given Dalglish more than £100 million ($159m) to spend in the transfer market since he took over from the sacked Roy Hodgson in 2011.

But expensive signings such as Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson largely flopped and Liverpool's eighth-place finish was their worst season-ending position for nearly two decades, with their lowest points tally since 1954. They defeated second-tier Cardiff City on penalties in the League Cup final but lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final earlier this month.

Dalglish voiced his gratitude to fans for their show of support following his dismissal. In a message on Twitter, he wrote: "Overwhelmed by the support of the fans. Always been special but even more so now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. YNWA England 2013/2014 CHAMBERLAIN Away Soccer Jersey (You'll Never Walk Alone) and I never have."

Earlier on Thursday, the 61-year-old Dalglish told the Liverpool Echo that fans needed to show support to the club's American owners. "I would hope nobody would prejudge things now," Dalglish said. "The owners have their own reasons for doing what they have done.

"They came in to help the club at a time when it wasn't in a great condition. They have improved it, taken it forward and are doing the best they can. Liverpool is still a great football club, still a club that should believe in whoever is going to come in Danny Welbeck Away Soccer Jersey after myself. The supporters, not just for myself but for everyone else, have always been fantastically supportive of the team and that should not change."

world cup Defiant Redknapp wont give up on third place

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has warned Arsenal to expect a fight to the finish in the race for third place in the Premier League.

Redknapp's side surrendered their grip on third spot, which earns automatic UEFA Champions League group stages, for the first time in almost three months after a 1-1 draw against Stoke on Wednesday.

While Spurs were failing to win for a fourth successive league match, Arsenal continued their revival with a 1-0 victory at Everton which allowed them to leapfrog their north London rivals.

It was another dispiriting 90 minutes for Spurs, who needed a Rafael van der Vaart stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Cameron Jerome's opener as football returned to White Hart Lane just four days after Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba's horrifying collapse there.

Although Spurs have been in freefall over the last month, Redknapp is convinced they will rediscover their peak form in time to pip Arsenal to third.

There's a long way to go yet. england away jersey 2013 There'll be twists and turns. It's all to play for still.Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp

"We can still finish above Arsenal. Arsenal can think it's all over. It's not all over," Redknapp said. "There's a long way to go yet. There'll be twists and turns. It's all to play for still. They're not going to win every game, are they, I don't think."

Redknapp rubbished suggestions his players might have been affected by Saturday's distressing events, which saw Tottenham's FA Cup England Gerrard #4 soccer jersey tie with Bolton abandoned after Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest shortly before half-time.

"Nothing affects them - they've been ready to play," he said. "I'd be making excuses if I said that. I just felt we got a bit panicky. We stopped passing the ball as well.

"The crowd want us to get forward and want us to win, which is great. And we start lumping the ball forward. There's no point in lumping the ball forward against Stoke. We had to play, we had to keep being patient, and if it took 10, 15, 20 passes to try to make an opening, we had to do it."

Redknapp revealed he even lied to his players at half-time to motivate them, telling them fifth-placed Chelsea were winning at Manchester City. He said: "I said Arsenal were winning and Chelsea were winning. Chelsea weren't winning but I said, 'They're both winning. Let's get after them, we need a win'. It didn't work, did it, obviously because we only drew!"

Redknapp also insisted his players had not lost their nerve, having blown what looked set to be a 13-point lead over Arsenal during last month's north London derby.

He said: "We've had hard games. People can look at it as much as they want. We've played three games before tonight. They weren't exactly nine points you'd been looking at. We're all disappointed Rooney #10 away soccer jersey to have had a blip at this time of the season but we've got to come out of that now, we've got to keep going."

world cup Wenger Walcott is Arsenals secret weapon

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Theo Walcott is emerging as a key figure in the north London club's fight England Gerrard #4 home soccer jersey to finish third.

The England winger provided vital assists for both his team's goals in the dramatic added-time victory over Newcastle United that moved Wenger's side to within one point of third-placed Tottenham.

Robin van Persie struck the first from Walcott's cross to claim his 33rd goal of the season. But while the Arsenal captain has been the dominant figure throughout the Gunners' campaign, Wenger insists Walcott is playing an equally important role.

The Arsenal manager said: "I think people forget about Theo because he is so long in the spotlight that people forget Philip Anthony "Phil" Jones Away Soccer Jersey he is 23 years old and he is now getting to an age where you perform. It's as simple as that. He develops well because he is intelligent and I feel tactically and technically tonight he played a complete game."

Walcott laid on the last minute cross that was turned home by Thomas Vermaelen to seal a fifth successive Premier League win and maintain Arsenal's recent record of last gasp victories.

He is intelligent and I feel tactically and technically tonight he played a complete game.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger

Wenger said: "I believe it shows we have quality, we have spirit which I never questioned. We had relentless effort from the first to the last minute. The tempo was absolutely top level and kept going until the last second of the game. And certainly the fact we have done that before helped. We just kept going and you feel that in the team we have that complete and total commitment to do whatever we can."

And he added: "We played recently against Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle, and at Sunderland who are difficult to beat. It was tight every time, we won in the last minute at Sunderland, at Liverpool and against Newcastle. What is at stake is complete commitment from every single game and see where we finish."

Van Persie kick-started the recovery after Hatem Ben Arfa had put Newcastle ahead in the 14th minute and was involved in an ongoing argument with visiting keeper Tim Krul that threatened to spill over after the final whistle.

The manager said: "I don't know if it is history from Holland or today's story? I haven't spoken to him yet but I am happy he stayed yellow and didn't turn red. He is absolutely committed. He gave absolutely everything tonight and got us an equaliser."

Fading dreams for Magpies
Newcastle have now gone four games without a win and manager Alan Pardew admitted the defeat had ended their hopes of forcing their way into the top four. Pardew's side lie sixth and are now targeting a UEFA Europa League spot.

And the manager said: "You couldn't fault the commitment but we must not let the disappointment of that last minute goal get to us because we have a lot to play for still.

"I'd billed this game for the Champions League we needed to win it, a draw was no good for us, we aren't going to get there, we could make the Europa League and we have to try and win on Saturday and keep our noses in front in that position."

Pardew admitted his side had run out of steam in the final minutes and blamed the winning goal on an injury to right back Danny Simpson. He said: "Obviously we are very disappointed because we had the ball in their corner in the 94th minute I think it was.

"We had a few problems England 2013/2014 BECKHAM Away Soccer Jersey towards the end of the game. We lost Cheick Tiote to cramp, Danny Simpson had an injury but we had no subs left and we were struggling. And in the end Danny's recovery just couldn't get him back and we conceded the goal."

world cup Liverpool Chelsea through at rivals expense

Dirk Kuyt scored late on to secure a 2-1 victory for Liverpool and eliminate rivals Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It was a sweet moment for Kenny Dalglish's side after their win over Manchester City in the League Cup semi-finals in midweek and against a background of tensions between the two bitter rivals.

Daniel Agger opened the scoring with a 21st-minute header for the hosts, but Park Ji-Sung equalised six minutes before the break and a replay looked on the cards until Kuyt netted the winner two minutes from time.

The match between Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea provided little in the way of action throughout the first hour, but the Blues claimed a 1-0 victory courtesy of a 62nd-minute penalty from Juan Mata after Clint Hill had fouled Daniel Sturridge.

In the day's later kick-offs, once again it was Crawley who provided the shock of the day, the League Two side defeating Championship Hull 1-0 thanks to Matt Tubbs' 57th-minute goal to reach the fifth round for the second successive year.

League One side Sheffield looked to have followed up their fourth-round win over West Ham by knocking out another Championship side as Clinton Morrison lobbed them ahead at Blackpool, but Kevin Phillips equalised in injury time from the spot.

Last year's runners-up Stoke City made a great start, taking the lead in the fifth minute through Cameron Jerome, and Robert Huth added a second nine minutes from time for a 2-0 win at local rivals Derby.

Bolton scrape by Swansea
Bolton Wanderers, the team Stoke beat 5-0 in the semi-finals in 2011, are also through thanks to Chris Eagles' 56th-minute winner against Swansea City with visiting goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel culpable. Luke Moore had put the Swans ahead, but England Rooney away red soccer jersey it was quickly cancelled out just before half-time by Darren Pratley, scoring for the first time since a goal in last season's play-off semi-final.

A goal from Simeon Jackson five minutes from time earned Norwich City a 2-1 win at West Bromwich Albion in another all Premier League clash after Marc Antoine Fortune had cancelled out Grant Holt's first-half opener.

League Two Swindon were the heroes of the third round after knocking Rooney #10 home soccer jersey out top-flight Wigan Athletic, but they went down 2-0 to Leicester today as Jermaine Beckford made it five goals in the competition this season.

Birmingham were comfortable 4-0 winners over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane thanks to goals from 17-year-old Nathan Redmond, Wade Elliott and a brace from Adam Rooney. Meanwhile, Rickie Lambert's 31st-minute goal looked like it would be enough for Championship high-fliers Southampton to beat Millwall, but Darius Henderson struck four minutes from time to secure a 1-1 draw.

In the all League One clash, Damion Stewart's own Ashley Cole Home Soccer Jersey goal on 12 minutes put Stevenage into the fifth round for the first time in their history as they beat Notts County 1-0.

The biggest shock of the day came in the final match as Brighton dumped out Premier League side Newcastle United with a 1-0 victory at the Amex Stadium.

It was a deja vu moment for Magpies defender Mike Williamson, who deflected in Will Buckley's close-range effort for the only goal 14 minutes from time. Williamson also scored an own goal last season when Newcastle lost to then League Two side Stevenage in the third round of the competition.

world cup Last Europa berths up for grabs

English Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur head a list of nine clubs vying for the five remaining berths in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League as the group stage reaches its climax on Thursday.

Tottenham must simply avoid defeat at home to Group J foes Panathinaikos to advance, while victory at Udinese would assure Liverpool's progression from Group A, although a draw would suffice should Young Boys fail to beat already-qualified Anzhi Makhachkala.

Tottenham's inconsistent form this term has taken a sharp upwards turn lately with three straight league wins propelling them back into the top four, and striker Jermain Defoe finding the back of the net with regularity in recent weeks.

"We want to get through to the knockout stage of the competition and as we've said all along, we want to England Wayne Rooney away red soccer jersey do something special this season. Things are going well at the moment and we've just got to keep it going," said the England forward.

"The European nights are special and there is so much history here. We always have fantastic support and that helps the lads to perform," added Defoe, who was recently compared to Atletico Madrid's in-demand striker Radamel Falcao by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The north Londoners are second with seven points from five matches and trail leaders and qualified Lazio by two points.

A Spurs' victory could conceivably see Villas-Boas' side pip the Italians to top spot, but defeat would end their European dreams with Panathinaikos going through at their expense.

Tottenham will also be without Gareth Bale after the Welsh star injured his hamstring in Saturday's 3-0 win at Fulham.

Reds aim to book passage
An 88th-minute strike from Young Boys defender Elsad Zverotic at Anfield last time out kept the Swiss outfit's qualification hopes alive, England 2013/2014 LAMPARD Home Soccer Jersey denying Liverpool from clinching a place in the knockout phase in the process.

Brendan Rodgers' men travel to eliminated Italian side Udinese, knowing that three points would erase the pain of Zverotic's late equaliser and put them through to the next stage of the tournament.

The five-time European champions are going through a transitional period following the appointment of Rodgers in the close-season and have experienced their fair share of growing pains, but the Northern Irishman believes the return of Lucas Leiva from injury will provide the club with a substantial boost, particularly going forward.

"With Lucas you can see all of a sudden with the right profile player in the right position it frees up the offensive threats," said Rodgers.

"I thought the rhythm and balance of the game was great with him there," he added, referring to Liverpool's display in their 1-0 win over Southampton at the weekend.

Luis Suarez, who has shouldered much of the responsibility in attack, is likely to play a prominent role on Thursday after incurring a one-match domestic suspension following his fifth caution in the league that will rule him out of Sunday's trip to West Ham.

"I'm not going to lose sleep over it, and at least it means he will more than likely start now against Udinese in the Europa League. We'll be strong when we get over there," said Rodgers about the Uruguayan's impending absence.

Liverpool control their own destiny, but a second defeat to Udinese - the Serie A won 3-2 at Anfield in October - would spell the end of the road for the Reds, with Young Boys taking their place in the last 32.

Elsewhere, Steaua Bucharest, VfB Stuttgart and FC Copenhagen all still harbour hopes of progressing from Group E.

Steaua take on Denmark in Copenhagen needing to avoid defeat in order to advance, although a loss by a one-goal margin - other than 1-0 - would also put them through, while Copenhagen must win to stand any chance of staying alive.

Stuttgart can secure their ticket to the next round by beating England Gerrard #4 soccer jersey Norwegian side Molde.

Meanwhile, Basel and Videoton will vie for the final qualification spot in Group G. Videoton must beat bottom side Sporting Lisbon and hope Swiss title-holders Basel succumb to leaders Genk if they are to progress.

world cup Late goals give Chelsea cushion

Chelsea scored three times in the final 11 minutes to get their UEFA Champions League defence up and running in earnest with a 4-0 victory against FC Nordsjaelland.

Juan Mata continued his amazing recent form with his third goal in three games but it took a superb free-kick from David Luiz to open the floodgates as Mata and Ramires sent the European champions top of Group E.

Before that, there were as many questions as answers at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen as Chelsea almost let another lead slip, two weeks after blowing a two-goal advantage to draw their opening match against Juventus.

Frank Lampard returned to the starting XI for the first time since then, captaining the side in the absence of the rested John Terry. The 34-year-old cleverly set up Mata's opener and led the visitors well.

Roberto Di Matteo had described this game as Chelsea's biggest of the group and they certainly started as if they meant business, Jores Okore hitting his own post clearing Oscar's cross, with Victor Moses poised to nod home.

Mata opens the scoring
Fernando Torres also made a Wayne Rooney #10 home white soccer jersey hash of beating the last defender after a lucky break and Lampard sent Mata's cross over the bar. Sloppiness soon crept in Gerrard #4 away red soccer jersey as Nordsjaelland, whose possession game soon got going, had a couple of sighters before a desperate lunge from Ashley Cole prevented Kaspar Lorentzen turning in Joshua John's cross.

Nordsjaelland continued to make errors, one from Ivan Runje playing in Torres, who fired at the legs of Jesper Hansen. And it was a mistake Chelsea punished ruthlessly in the 33rd minute, Torres robbing Enoch Adu and finding Lampard, who showed great vision in feeding Mata to slot home.

Nordsjaelland continued to play as if they had nothing to lose but Torres should have put them in their place a minute before the break when he shot straight at Hansen after being put clean through by Oscar.

It was a similar story after the restart when the Spaniard was beaten to another Oscar england national jersey ball by the goalkeeper but the first real shot came from John, who fired just wide after sidestepping Ramires. Moses had the ball in the net moments later but the goal was rightly ruled out for his foul on Michael Parkhurst.

Nordsjaelland then assumed total control as Mikkel Beckmann sent a looping header just over from Okore's long ball, Petr Cech only parried Nicolai Stokholm's swerving 25-yarder, and Beckmann screwed Parkhurst's cross wide.

Chelsea seal victory
Chelsea withdrew Moses for Eden Hazard and Nordsjaelland sent on Mario Ticinovic for Morten Nordstrand, and it was the home side's change which almost paid off when Cech brilliantly saved John's curler onto the post and Cole was on hand to block Beckmann's rebound.

The visitors hit back and Runje was lucky to see only yellow for a shocking tackle on Ramires, Oscar lashing the ball home after the whistle had gone. Mata wasted the free-kick but when Chelsea got another 11 minutes from time, Luiz swerved a vicious shot in off the inside of the near post.

It was game over three minutes later when the champions' best move of the match ended with a lucky break off a defender, with Mata stroking home. And there was still time for Ramires to put gloss on the scoreline by tapping home Oscar's cross.

world cup Coutinho grabs winner in title test

Philippe Coutinho's 78th-minute winner gave Liverpool a crucial 3-2 victory over English Premier League title rivals Manchester City on a day of raw emotion at Anfield on Sunday. City fought back from 2-0 down to level the scores, but a mistake by captain Vincent Kompany let Rooney home soccer jersey Coutinho slam home a first-time shot that leaves Liverpool within sight of their first league title since 1990.

An afternoon that began with tributes to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster ended with Liverpool seven points clear of City at the top of the table, albeit having played two more games. It was a tenth successive win for Brendan Rodgers's side, who scored first-half goals through Raheem Sterling England Wayne Rooney away red soccer jersey and Martin Skrtel, and means that they will be crowned champions if they win their remaining four games.

City responded impressively in the second half to draw level. David Silva scored and then forced an own goal by Glen Johnson, but their destiny is no longer in their hands. It was to prove a costly encounter for both teams, however, with City midfielder Yaya Toure and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge limping off, while Liverpool's Jordan Henderson was shown a straight red card for an injury-time lunge on Samir Nasri.

A solemnly observed minute's silence in memory of the 96 Liverpool fans who died after a crush at Sheffield's Hillsborough stadium in an FA Cup semi-final in April 1989 made for a fervent atmosphere at a sun-drenched Anfield, and the home side quickly clicked into gear.

Kompany was declared fit to play after an injury scare in training on Saturday, but the City defence was immediately made to look vulnerable as Liverpool took a sixth-minute lead. Luis Suarez freed Sterling with a fine, incisive pass and the 19-year-old exhibited superb composure to send Kompany and goalkeeper Joe Hart one way and then the other before shooting into an unguarded net.

In reply, Toure ballooned a shot over the bar but seemed to injure himself in the process. Javi Garcia entered the fray in his place moments later.

Liverpool have made storming starts their calling card at Anfield this season, they went 4-0 up against Arsenal in only 20 minutes, and after Sturridge had poked wide from a Sterling cross, they doubled their lead in the 26th minute.

Hart brilliantly tipped a header from Steven Gerrard over the bar after the Liverpool captain was left unmarked at a corner, but within a minute he was picking the ball out of his net. Gerrard swept the resulting corner towards the near post and Skrtel outmuscled Kompany before glancing a header past Hart to claim his fifth goal in ten games.

Silva inspires fightback
City finished the first half strongly though, with Sterling and Johnson combining to clear a Kompany header off the line and Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet blocking a volley from Fernandinho. City manager Manuel Pellegrini introduced James Milner for Jesus Navas early in the second half and in the 57th minute he created the goal that gave City a foothold in the game, swapping passes with Fernandinho and crossing for Silva to tuck the ball home.

Suddenly the visitors had their tails up, with Silva to the fore, and after drilling in a cross that narrowly eluded Dzeko, he forced the equaliser with a centre that was diverted into the net by Johnson. To make matters worse for Liverpool, Sturridge limped off injured in the aftermath of the goal, with Joe Allen coming on.

Pellegrini sent on the fit-again Sergio Aguero and he almost laid on the winner for Silva with a low cross from the left, but the stretching Spaniard managed only to brush the ball with his studs. It was to prove a telling moment. Minutes later, Kompany's sliced clearance fell straight to Coutinho and the Brazilian slammed home a first-time shot to leave Anfield dreaming of glory again.

world cup Suarez Champions League would be incredible

Luis Suarez has said he would be happy to sacrifice Gerrard #4 home soccer jersey personal glory if it meant Liverpool were guaranteed to qualify for the UEFA Champions England 2013/2014 WILSHERE Away Soccer Jersey League - but insists his Anfield future is not dependent on a return to Europe's elite.

The Uruguayan striker has earned numerous plaudits for his performances this year and his 24 Premier League goals puts him in line for the Golden Boot with his nearest challenge being team-mate Daniel Sturridge (18).

With Liverpool currently second in the table, six points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham, there is every chance Suarez could achieve both ambitions this season but he would settle for getting the club back into Europe's premier club competition.

"I'd actually prefer not to win this Golden Boot and for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League this season," Suarez said in an interview in the April edition of FourFourTwo magazine.

"Any player would miss the Champions League. We've not been good enough since I've been here to qualify but this could definitely England 2013/2014 CHAMBERLAIN Away Soccer Jersey be our year.

"It would be a frustration not to get fourth because we've done everything possible and given our maximum to qualify.

"Everyone says Champions League nights at Anfield are amazing - memories you guard forever.

"It would be an unforgettable experience and it's been too long since that happened. I think to finish in the top three, which is still possible, would be incredible with the players we have in the squad."

Suarez, having tried to manufacture a move away last summer, signed a new vastly-improved contract in December.

There has been speculation it contained a bona fide clause which would allow him to leave if the club did not qualify for the Champions League, but he insists a failure this season would not necessarily see him walk away this summer.

"I signed my new contract because I'm very happy here and I want to stay where I'm enjoying football and life. Playing in the Champions League isn't dependent on that," he added.

"This is my best season yet. I feel in a very good place, physically and mentally.

"Every day I feel better in this club. I hope to continue down this path because we want Champions League football for Liverpool and, personally speaking, I want to continue that mentality throughout the World Cup with Uruguay."

world cup Mancini targets more glory

Manager Roberto Mancini was already looking forward to more success after Manchester City's amazing Premier League title triumph.

Injury-time goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero secured a 3-2 win for the Blues over QPR, which was enough to give them their first championship since 1968.

"We are happy because we won this trophy after 44 years," he said. "We changed the history of this club by beating a strong team like United. Now I hope we can continue to win."

For most of an agonising second-half, the day looked like becoming the ultimate disaster after first Djibril Cisse, then Jamie Mackie scored for the visitors after Pablo Zabaleta's first-half strike.

It seemed not even the ridiculous dismissal of former Blues midfielder Joey Barton could england home jersey chance the course of a title race that seemed, once again, certain to end with Manchester United lifting the trophy.

We changed the history of this club by beating a strong team like United. Now I hope we can continue to win.Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini

But skipper Vincent Kompany refused to believe the dream was dying. "This game was crazy," he said.

"There are no words to explain what happened today. I just remember them having two shots and it was bang, goal. We had so many chances. It just had to happen for us. Miracles do happen in Manchester. This time it is on this side of the road."

What happened afterwards was a blur as Kompany dived into a melee of players, with Aguero underneath, before the game re-started and referee Mike Dean finally blew his whistle to bring the curtain down on the best season in living memory.

"It is one big blur," said Kompany. england new soccer jersey "I remember jumping on top of Sergio when he scored the goal. He was crying on the floor.

"All the guys were pouring their eyes out. You don't see strong personalities like that showing their emotion so often. We expected to win the league today. The disappointment of being one goal down was incredible.

"For us to do it was one of the best moments of my life, together with my wedding and the birth of my child."

Mancini had no doubts City deserved their success, having established superiority over United in every department apart from, until the final two minutes, their league position.

"We deserved it," he said. "We played the best football. We scored the most goals, we conceded the fewest. We beat United twice.

"I have never seen a final like this though. In the history of the club, a final like this does not exist. I am very proud of my players though. They wanted to win this England Wayne Rooney away red soccer jersey title until the last second of the last game."
